History: Wiki
Appearance: Link
Personality: There are some people out there who you meet and things go smoothly, and then there are those you meet and there's something about them that just grates on your nerves. They may be good people once you get to know them, but the initial reaction is to want to slap them upside the head a few times with a blunt object. Lance... is one of those people: loud, acts a little immature at times, and will drive you crazy, but at the same time, his heart's in the right place and if you get in tight with him, he's the ride or die type.

This quirky Cuban teen possesses a boisterous demeanor which is where his immaturity stems from, and an adventurous spirit, sort of like a giant wave that comes crashing in hard and sweeps others along in his wake. Lance likes to show off, talk himself up, be the center of attention, and will gladly toss a dashing smile, some finger-guns, and a pick-up line at the occasional beautiful women he comes across. Unfortunately, his flirting and ability to trust others a bit too easily can often blind him to the reality of a situation and leaves him open to being taken advantage of. For all his bragging and flirting though, he's honestly not all that great with women and doesn't always have what it takes to back his words, shown during the failed simulation where one moment he was bragging to Pidge about his piloting skills and the next, they were slamming into the ground. The only thing he really talks up and isn't overblowing is his skill with a gun – the boy's a very good marksman.

There are times when he can be a bit of an instigator, and not only does he see no issue with running his mouth, but he can be quite loud about it. When he gets going, there's very little by way of volume control, and both his outbursts and comebacks tend to be rather childish in nature. Because of his general cockiness, he tends to come off a bit arrogant, often touting himself as being 'cool' or the best at something when in truth, that isn't the case. To the others, that cocky attitude and his usual antics just scream 'goofball', much to his chagrin. He prefers to consider himself the "cool ninja sharpshooter" than "team goofball", and although he's dialed it back on the goofiness, he still acts the part, though it seems to be more to break up tensions or when there's his own personal 'need' for it.

He can be rather dense at times, and is no techie – he outright states he has no clue what Hunk and Pidge are talking about when they're discussing techno-babble – but he's certainly not stupid. In actuality, Lance can be quite perceptive of things, able to devise a workable plan when necessary and, when he cares to try, able to see in others what they may not see in themselves, such as his acceptance of Keith's leadership when the Black Lion chose him (even if he does snip at him later) and convincing Allura to believe in herself on Naxela at a time when the team needed her most. He also had no trouble giving orders when faced with the Clone Shiro and Lotor fiasco after Keith's return. His piloting skills, while not as strong as Shiro's or Keith's, are anything but sub-par. While he may not have made fighter pilot if Keith hadn't been booted to open a slot, there's nothing at all to say that what held him back wasn't his immature personality instead of his ability, and the fact that he was bumped up right after a spot opened speaks volumes for his skill as he could've stayed a cargo pilot – if he was next in line, either he's that good or everyone else was just that bad. As for his combat ability, he's not only a strong long-range fighter, which is reflected in both the rifle and blaster forms taken by his bayard, but he's also become rather adept with using his bayard's sword form, able to go toe-to-toe with a highly skilled swordsman and hold his own.

Something else that is important to mention is that he's very family-oriented. Coming from a large family himself, he's quick to adopt the others as if they're a pseudo-family all their own, even if he does get a bit homesick. He gets along well with everyone – even Keith despite the fact that he viewed the other as his 'rival' and was usually either snarking at him, annoying him, or making everything into a challenge – and he's willing to do what he can to protect them, even if results in his own injuries. This is never shown better than when he tackled Coran to the ground after Sendak's attack on the Castle that left him injured but protected the Altean, when he didn't hesitate to grab his bayard and take a shot at Sendak to protect his teammates after coming to only to pass out again immediately afterward, and when he and Red literally bodychecked Allura and Blue to save them from an electrical blast that pretty much killed him (yay for Altean revival skills).

For all that he can be loud, outgoing, cocky, and the kind of person most would want to smack with a phone book... it's mostly bravado. He is friendly and personable, but he's also very self-critical and puts up a front to hide his insecurities. He knows he isn't really as great as he'd like others to think, and where Keith tends to compare himself to Shiro, Lance compares himself to Keith. He questions his position among the team, his ability as a Paladin, and unlike some of the others, he has no clear-cut motivations as far as what keeps him going with Voltron. He was even willing to stand down and step aside for the good of the team, believing himself to be the useless 'seventh wheel' of the group after Shiro's return, because he was certain Keith would want his lion back and he couldn't bring himself to take Blue from Allura. His insecurities run deep, right down to the one-sided rivalry between himself and Keith – he'd chosen Keith as his rival because Keith was the best at the Garrison, and thus Lance marked him as the thing to beat, the measuring stick from which he gauged his own ability. Because he idolizes Shiro, being scolded by him over Lotor stung hard, and even after the apology that followed later, he didn't entirely bounce back from it, just put on a smile and made it stay there, which shows that what others think of him is important to him and he doesn't let things roll off his back as easily as he acts. He frets over things that bother him, often choosing something physical to work out his worries, such as video games or exercise, and he has a hard time sitting still if there's something on his mind. In fact, he's not even as smooth with women as he likes to pretend – it's entirely talk, and as his family later states that he never brings girls home, it's apparently something he picked up from his father.

Emotionally, he's like a roller coaster: lots of ups and downs and all-arounds, and the larger the up, the deeper the down. Little things can make him incredibly happy, or can set him into a tailspin, and it doesn't take much for him to go from one extreme to the other, such as when he casually commented that someday he wanted all the things inside his head stored in a big ship, like King Alfor had done, to which Keith responded that the amount of stuff in Lance's head would fit into a paper airplane... resulting in an explosion from a playful calm to outright cattiness followed by huffiness. Thankfully, since he's gotten to go back to Earth and be reunited with his family, his homesickness has been abated for the time being, but when he gets upset about something enough to actually cry, he'll blame it on having dust in his eye.

His bonds with the other Paladins, Allura, and Coran have grown stronger over time and his interactions with the others, while they haven't necessarily changed him, have pushed him to grow as an individual. He's settled into his own as the new pilot of the Red Lion, which was described as temperamental and one whose trust needed to be earned - his willingness to put aside his so-called 'rivalry' with Keith and acceptance of the other as leader prompting Red to accept him as its new pilot, quite literally making Lance into Keith's right arm on the battlefield. He's also started letting the jovial mask fall more often, showing that he feels he's able to be himself around them without relying on his go-tos of bragging and showing off to be noticed. Of the group, Keith is the one that Lance goes to when he needs validation and when he's having trouble with things – this shows that although he treated Keith as a rival, he also respects him enough to seek out his opinion and actually takes what the other says to heart, as Keith is the only one who has never given him a brush off (and the one time he did, Lance looked hurt for a moment, but it really wasn't the best time for his antics and he recovered quickly) and has always listened to him no matter how dumb or antagonizing what Lance said was.

Now, although he can be a flirt, Lance is dramatically toned down from how he was in the beginning when it only mattered that the other be a hot female (race and species is a non-issue with him). The reason for this change is that for the first time, he actually learned what it was to be in love... as well as what it was to have that feeling be one-sided for a time and what it was to lose it. When he's unattached, he will flirt with almost anything out there, however once a commitment of any sort is laid down (we're talking dating and relationship, not marriage, though that would be the same for him) he zeroes in on that person and will do whatever he can to make them happy, even at his own expense.

All in all, Lance can be obnoxious, annoying, immature, and the weird friend you want to neuter for fear that they might actually manage to reproduce somewhere down the line and make more of themselves... but at the same time, he's one of those weird friends who will never let you down, always have your back, and will put the needs of others before his own, even if he ultimately drives you crazy in the process.

Powers / Abilities: Lance is a normal human with no superpowers, unless having a connection with a mechanical alien lion that's a little over 10,000 years old counts. He excels at long-range combat with firearms and can hold his own with a broadsword. He's also incredibly flexible, perfectly at home in the water, and despite appearances, has the physical strength to pull off an aerial dance routine on a single rope fluidly and with ease.
Inventory:His Bayard, which takes the form of an Altean broadsword, an alien blaster, and a sniper rifle (none of which would ever be used on innocent people) - it's really more of a comfort thing to him at this point.
